Muddiest Point for Week 8

With Google possessing the majority percentage (83.34%) of market shares for search engines, do you think that they would ever take over the whole market?  Is that a plausible thought that it could happen?

  1. This is a really interesting question. Thanks for asking it!

I could definitely see Google developing a monopoly over the search engine market. As you point out, they're coming pretty close now. That said, I'm not certain that Google would ever let itself get to the point where they could be involved in an antitrust suit. It'll be interesting to see how they sidestep that and continue growth...

  2. Haven't they pretty much done so already!?

But in all seriousness, I agree with John. Google is a smart company -- I doubt they will succumb to something like an antitrust suit. They know what they are doing. They know that if they get any more dominance than that 83.34% that they already have, then they will topple over. The only reason they haven't gained complete dominance is this the same reason why they shouldn't.
